Coughs: Coughing is nature's way of getting rid of irritants or foreign matter in the airways. The presence of bacteria, dust, or pollen stimulates the production of mucus, which coats and flushes out the irritant. Taking any form of cough suppressant blocks the protective mechanism of the body when it is trying to expel the mucus to prevent a deeper infection, i.e. do not use cough suppressants.
What to Use: Which homeopathic remedy to use to help a cough and quicken healing depends upon the type of cough and the patient’s symptoms. In her book, Homeopathic Medicine at Home, Dr. Panos recommends 11 different remedies for treating coughs. For immediate relief a slippery elm lozenge, black currant pastille, or lemon drop can relieve the discomfort of a cough.
Cautions and Commonsense: Do not use cough suppressants—they inhibit the body’s ability to protect and heal itself. Avoid all medicated cough drops that contain camphor, menthol, eucalyptus or chloroform; these ingredients will nullify homeopathic medicines.

Flu: For the headache, overall body aches, and stomach distress, a number of homeopathic remedies alleviate symptoms and shorten your suffering dramatically. The Boiron homeopathic flu remedy Oscillococcinum R has been used by millions in 65 countries; keep it in the cupboard and use it at the first sign of flu, and you'll be back on your feet in a day or two! For years we have used Influenzinum 30c both for prevention (a dose at the beginning of every month during flu season) and to treat symptoms should flu threaten. As to flu shots, they are about 28 percent effective and contain toxic additives whether or not they're effective for the particular virus in your area.
