Fear of treatment/surgery:

What to take: This is common when faced with a dental visit, especially if it involves surgery or drilling. To help overcome excessive nervousness and fear, you can takeAconite.

In addition to this you may want to take Gelsemium to relieve diarrhea and nausea in combination with Chamomilla to relieve the sensitivity to pain.

Surgical wound:

What to take: The trauma of oral surgery can be lessened by taking an oral dose of Arnica under the tongue before and after the surgery to reduce pain and swelling.

Case History:
One week after surgery to remove gum tissue, my gum was still so raw and inflamed that the dentist could not remove the stitches. He advised me to take ibuprofen regularly (again) for four to five days to reduce the inflammation. After two days of ibuprofen 3x/day my stomach rebelled. I recalled homeopathic remedies for dental work, took two doses of Ruta, and in six hours my gum healed more than it had in the previous 10 days. WMB

Root canal discomfort:

What to take:
If, after you have had a root canal, there is still the lingering discomfort of what dentists call "dry socket,” oral doses of Ruta and/or Hypericum will ease the pain and reduce swelling. You can also gargle with Calendula mixed with a cup of warm water to help promote tissue healing. Needle wounds from the anesthetic can also be mended by using Ledum. If the wound continues to bleed, use Phosphorus as well.

Tooth extraction:

What to take: As with root canal work, the tissue is under extreme trauma and discomfort. Use the same remedies as above to ease the pain and reduce swelling. Also, take Arnica before and after the extraction with a dose of Aconite and Gelsemium to calm your nerves and make the operation less stressful. One dose of Phosphorus taken the night before any oral procedure will lessen or alleviate the discomforts and reactions to the anesthesia.

Case History:
While my daughter's friends scheduled two weeks to recover from having wisdom teeth removed, we used Arnica for pain and Ruta to heal the gums, and after surgery on Wednesday she was out clubbing Saturday night. WMB
